If you are thinking about purchasing an antenna, you must of course also be able to place it and connect it to the device on which you receive the signal. Of course there are wireless antennas, but you always have a more stable connection via an antenna cable. Whether you want to receive internet, television or radio, you can find a suitable cable with every antenna. Of course, it is important that you purchase the cable that fits and as you can see here, there are quite a few options.

The type of cable

The first thing you should ask yourself when you buy an antenna cable is what you want to use it for. Specific products sometimes require specific cables, such as the GPS antenna extension cable for a certain type of transponder. Therefore, first analyze the existing situation and look at the parts you already have at home before purchasing additional products or cables. Then make sure you know exactly which type of cable you need and which connections it should have. You can also purchase a separate cable with separate connections and install it yourself.

Special types of cables: RG and DB cables

RG58 and RG59 cables are coaxial cables that are often used for the transmission of images and sound. There are also DB cables, also called D-subminiature or D-sub, such as the DB15 and DB37. The D comes from the shape of the connector and the number comes from the number of pins in the connector. To be sure whether one of these antenna cables is suitable for your device, you should always consult the list of devices displayed with the product. If you have any questions, it is always better to consult a specialist, so that you do not run the risk of purchasing the wrong model. Here you will find a small overview of the most common cables and some terminology.

WIFI antenna cable: use a WIFI cable to connect your access point to your computer or other device. These cables are often quite standard and can be connected to most antennas.
COAX antenna cable: Most antennas are COAX cables. These are two-pole cables that can transmit sound and images. The internet can also be transmitted via the COAX cable. This is faster and much more stable than when you receive internet via the telephone line.
Adapter cable: adapter cables are cables that have a different connector on both ends. This reduces the chance that signal quality will deteriorate, as would be the case if you used adapters. Adapter cables are available in all kinds of shapes, sizes and compositions and are therefore regularly made in-house.
VHF antenna cable: did you order a VHF antenna because you would like to receive 4G internet? Then you can order a VHF cable, so that you can also connect your antenna directly to your device. This way your internet is not only fast, but also very stable.
GPS antenna cable: the GPS cable is specifically intended for a GPS antenna that collects GPS signals. You will need this if you want information about your exact location, for example if you are on a boat. These cables are therefore widely used in the maritime world.
HCP antenna cable: with an HCP cable you can mount a standard WIFI antenna in a control cabinet.
Low-loss antenna cable: a low-loss cable is another name for a COAX cable, but it is made in such a way that data loss is minimal. They are therefore often used on wireless devices, because they can transmit the signal as pure as possible.

What length do you need?

Another important thing to consider is the length of your cable. Many ready-made cables can be ordered per meter, but then you do not have the connections. Don't want to make the connections yourself? Then you order the desired length including connectors and you no longer have to work on it. You only have to establish the link between one device and another. Measure the distance you want to bridge with the cable carefully, because it is better to order a little more than too little cable. When ordering a cable with a larger number of meters, the price is also cheaper than for a cable with a more limited number of meters.

What other cable parts could be useful?

You can also order separate connectors. You can then mount this yourself on your cable and thus create the ideal cord for your purpose. Always pay attention to the KabelKeur quality mark on the connector. This ensures that you do not buy a connector that will cause signal loss due to an incorrect choice of material. If you are currently experiencing signal loss, check what connectors are attached to the current antenna cable. You may be better off with only new connections with the KabelKeur quality mark. Separate connectors for fiber optic cables can also be ordered.
