The NMEA2000 USB Coupler is a Bi-directional gateway allows you to connect a NMEA 2000 (DeviceNet/SeatalkNG) digital network to a PC, laptop or tablet PC running Microsoft Windows, Mac OS or Linux via a USB port. With this product, you can use all ship data including Heading, speed, position, wind speed and direction, water depth, AIS Messages, temperature, air pressure etc. in PC applications such as OpenCPN, Coastal Explorer, Polar View, OpenSkipper, etc.
The USB Gateway is available with a connector for SeatalkNG or Devicenet and there is a choice between a “Normal” USB plug for directly into a PC or with an IP67 connector with cover.
This converter can be configured in three different modes:
NMEA0183
In this mode, the converter converts NMEA2000 (binary) to NMEA0183 and vise versa. NMEA0183 is an old but still very popular protocol supported by almost all marine PC applications. Conversion of NMEA2000 is done for a wide range of messages, including AIS and autopilot.
NMEA2000
The converter transmits all messages directly in binary NMEA2000 format and is therefore works with Coastal Explorer, Expidition, Polar View, OpenSkipper and other navigation software.
RAW
Here all messages between the PC and the NMEA2000 network are transmitted in readable text format, similar to the NMEA2000 logs in chartplotters. This format is very useful for diagnosis or when creating your own applications. It is possible to record messages in .CAN format and/or monitor them with the free “CAN log viewer” software (Win, Mac and Linux). The recorded .CAN data can be converted and edited with the “YDVR Converter” software to export to GPX tracks, Spreadsheets and other formats. This does not work as conveniently as with the “NMEA200 data logger”, but is very useful for diagnosis and development.
AUTO
This mode automatically recognizes the data from the PC and selects one of the above modes.
No special software is required. Thus, you can update the Firmware by simply copying the new file to the virtual serial port and you can access the built-in settings menu with a terminal program.
Can duplicate old and/or defective instruments replacement
Can transmit all messages (including manufacturer specific).
In NMEA0183 mode, modern datagevers can be connected to (older) navigation software on PC.
