A rugged phone does exactly what it promises. It is the opposite of a normal phone, which is easily damaged by dust, water or impacts. Your phone usually does not handle sharp objects very well, such as keys in your jacket pocket that damage the screen. Also, your normal phone doesn't like it if it falls on the table or floor. And accidents happen every now and then, so if you are going to buy a new phone, or whether you are really tired of your old one with every little accident that causes damage, consider a different kind of phone.
What is a rugged phone?
Robust in this sense means that the speaking, listening and viewing functionalities of your phone are not affected by the things that happen to everyone. You are in a hurry, grab your things, but don't put them in your pocket, but next to it. Everything crashes on your beautiful granite floor and your phone usually ends up right on a corner. The glass of your screen is cracked, despite the solid screen protector and bumper or cover you had placed around it. Or during your walk to the bus, the rain suddenly comes down in buckets. If you want to check what time the bus arrives, you run the risk of water getting into the cracks. Robust means that your screen remains intact, your keys can be pressed and your microphone and speaker in your phone still function normally.
Who is a rugged phone useful for?
This telephone is very practical if you know that you are not very handy. If you regularly bump or drop something, you don't want to have to replace a part of your phone every month or have to buy a whole new one. At some point your insurance will also protest and frequently exclude damaged products from a subsequent claim. Or even worse: the insurance increases your monthly premium. And the question is whether, with the amount on top of your premium, it wouldn't be better to invest in a different type of phone in a year's time. A rugged phone or rugged tablet is therefore not necessarily only for people who have a dangerous job or participate in extreme sports.
Well-known brands of a robust telephone
The phones that can withstand more extreme external influences include Caterpillar, RugGear, Bea-fon and Sonim. The phones have also received a quality mark, which indicates how waterproof and dustproof they are and how resistant they are to shocks. One phone can withstand a drop of rain, the other you can actually drop in the water and it will still work properly. What stands out with most phones is that you have a better exterior. The phone usually has a rubber exterior. You can immediately see that they have more grip, so you are less likely to drop them from your hands because they are not so slippery. If you ever drop the rugged phone or your child decides to test the phone with its teeth, it is much more resilient than a normal phone.
Prices compared to regular phones
You don't have to shy away from the price. Many regular phones are just as expensive or even much more expensive than a rugged phone. You can get the sturdy phone from around seventy euros and the more expensive models - with more functionalities - can cost up to about five hundred euros. If your daughter comes home for the umpteenth time from an evening at the disco or an afternoon of shopping and asks for a new phone, you can safely let her save for this purchase herself. This way she learns the value of products and it's not like it will take her years before she gets the amount together. For some people it is an educational lesson, for others it is a welcome solution. Before something bad happens to one of your most important personal belongings, you will already have a phone that will last a long time and be just as enjoyable to use.
